Processing Kitchens Drive Rural Communities Forward with Sustainability and Innovation | Dombe Grande - Benguela, Angola – December 2024

Processing kitchens are becoming engines of change in Angola's rural communities.

One such initiative is being developed in Dombe Grande – Benguela, as part of the KURIMA project, an initiative by UNDP Angola in partnership with SEIVA and the Fondation Ondjyla. The project aims to revolutionize the way rural communities address food security, sustainability, and the local economy, placing women at the center of this transformation. Through targeted training, women are gaining skills in food diversification, hygiene, and preservation, becoming key actors in agricultural value chains and leaders in local food production.

The benefits go far beyond nutrition. Processing kitchens help preserve culinary traditions, stimulate local economies, and promote sustainable practices aligned with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles — paving the way for inclusion and long-term sustainability.

These initiatives open a new chapter for rural development in Angola — one grounded in innovation, cultural heritage, and a shared commitment to a sustainable future.

"These kitchens represent much more than food security — they symbolize a new form of empowerment, especially for women in rural areas," noted a representative from UNDP Angola.
